Applying for Graduate programmes (Master)

We are glad that you are interested in completing a graduate/master's degree programme at the University of Bayreuth! Please take a few moments to read our general information on applying for a Master's degree and admission to the Master's programme:

The application process depends on the degree programme and your background. In order to be able to show you the application process for your desired degree programme, we will need some information from you first:

Are you still unsure which degree programmes might suit you?

►Here you will find information to help you make your decision or perhaps book a consultation with our Central Student Advisory Service.

► You can find an overview of master's degree programmes offered by the University of Bayreuth that could be a good match for your bachelor's degree here.

►Alternatively you can browse through our current trending study programmes.

E.g. German Abitur, German Matura certificate, etc.

If you have obtained either your Bachelor's degree or your higher education entrance qualification in German, you do not need to provide proof of language proficiency for German-language degree programmes. However, if you have not obtained both degrees in German and have obtained an English-language Bachelor's degree in Germany, for example, you will have to provide proof of German language skills if you are applying for a German-language degree programme.

Are you interested in the Master's degree programme in Materials Science and Engineering? We cordially invite you to a personal consultation (even before the official application). You are welcome to make an appointment (in person or digitally) with Dr.-Ing. Gunter Hagen.

In this document template we have included valuable information on the following topics:

  • Formal and academic evaluation of the admission requirements being met
  • Contact persons in the faculty
  • Possible requirements for conditional admission
  • Proof of internship

You are welcome to download the document.
You will find space for your comments in the text field below the document.

International applicants from outside the EU who have obtained their degree abroad must undergo a fee-based special procedure and request the issuance of the document "preliminary review documentation" (Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD) via uni-assist.

You can have your documents reviewed by uni-assist any time of the year. If the desired semester is not yet available at uni-assist, simply select the current semester. It does not matter whether you request a VPD for the summer semester or the winter semester.

Which documents do I need to submit with my online application?

⇒ If you do not have the relevant English language skills at the start of the programme, you can submit them by the end of the second semester

This questionnaire must be submitted if you did not obtain your bachelor's degree at the University of Bayreuth.

Bitte laden Sie in jedem Fall das geforderte Dokument mit Angaben zu Ihren Semesterwochenstunden hoch. Bewerbungen ohne diese Angaben können vom Prüfungsausschuss nicht berücksichtigt werden. !

Usually, this is the Abitur (general higher education entrance qualification), i.e. the certificate which entitles you to study an undergraduate degree programme in Germany.

Please upload your last school certificate in the original language (e.g. High School Diploma, Baccalaureate, General Certificate of Education, Senior School Certificate).

Please note that you must submit all parts (certificate and overview of grades). Depending on the country in which you obtained your educational qualifications, you may need to submit additional documents. You will find corresponding information on the page Country-specific additional documents.

The university and the degree program must have been accredited by one of the national or international agencies included in the national registry of recognized accreditation agencies. For an overview of the recognized accreditation agencies and a current list of accredited universities and degree programs visit https://enic-kazakhstan.kz/en/accreditation/accredited_organizations https://iqaa.kz/ http://www.iaar.kz/ru/ You can get certificates of accreditation (e.g. for older university degrees) directly from your university.

The abbreviation EV means that the CV is required for the aptitude test.

A grading system is required with information on the maximum grade and minimum grade required for the degree (‘minimum for award of degree’) at your university (the CGPA or percentage for equivalent to ‘pass class’, often noted in the graduation requirements). The minimum grade for individual courses is not sufficient for the conversion.

For this degree programme, it is possible to apply to improve your grade on the basis of grade bonuses. To do so, please submit the documents ‘Application to improve the final grade for one's initial degree’ and ‘Proof of criteria for impoving the final grade for the relevant first degree’ in CAMPUSonline by the deadline.
If your degree does not have the required average grade, the final grade of the relevant undergraduate degree can be upgraded by a grade level of 0.4 if you have successfully completed university modules in business research methodology, in particular in mathematics for at least 4 ECTS and in statistics for at least 8 ECTS. This will be checked automatically as part of the assessment of academic admission requirements on the basis of your transcript. Submitting a request is not necessary.
For more information on the application to improve the average grade and the respective requirements, please refer to the der study and examination regulations.

For this degree programme, the grade of your master's entrance qualification plays a role with regard to admission to the degree programme. Below you can convert your final grade into the German grading system for your own initial information. Click on the ? to obtain additional information. Please note that there are country-specific recommendations from the Central Office for Foreign Education as to which values should be used as the best grade. Therefore, your result may differ from the actual final grade conversion.

Please note: Please note: Internationally, the grading systems used by higher education institutions can vary considerably. The result given here is not binding as this grade converter can only provide a first general estimate.

Your overall grade is usually shown as CGPA. If no overall grade is shown on your certificate, please calculate the average grade from all the partial grades on your certificate. Please enter your average grade as an Nd value.

The top mark on the scale in Pakistan is then, for example, 4. Enter this value in Nmax. This usually refers to the highest grade in the grading system. If this is never actually achieved in your country, you can also enter the best grade achieved in your year. However, you would have to submit proof of the best grade in your year with your application so that this can be taken into account in the conversion.

Now you will need the minimum CGPA or the minimum overall grade that you must achieve in order to obtain the degree. In Pakistan, this is often 2.0, but sometimes higher. You will also need to provide proof of this when you apply if the information is not on your transcript.

For this degree programme, the grade of your master's entrance qualification plays a role with regard to admission to the degree programme. Below you can convert your final grade into the German grading system for your own initial information. Click on the ? to obtain additional information.
