General questions

Where can I find information on the application process?
The admission requirements and application platform depend on the respective degree programme. You can find the complete range of degree programmes at the University of Bayreuth in our study programme finder. If you click on the name of the degree programme you would like to study, you will find information on the application deadline and the application process applicable to your applicant group under "How do I apply?”. Through this link you can find an overview of all our Master's programmes with the respective application periods and some further information.

How do I apply for the Studienkolleg?
Applicants are often unsure whether they have to attend the Studienkolleg or whether they may study directly. Therefore, there is no separate application process for the Studienkolleg at the University of Bayreuth. Instead, you apply for the Bachelor's programme you would like to study with us and we will check whether you already meet the requirements for direct study or whether you may have to go to the Studienkolleg. If the latter is determined, we will inform you and you will be automatically assigned to the Studienkolleg München.

I feel unsure about applying with CAMPUSonline. Can you help me?
Our application guide for CAMPUSonline supports you in the application process and offers assistance for prospective international students. In our application document glossary you can find details to the most commonly requested documents in CAMPUSonline.

Do I have to apply via uni-assist?
For all Bachelor's degree programmes and selected Master's degree programmes, international applicants from non-EU countries must first have their documents evaluated via uni-assist in the fee-based special procedure “Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD)” (preliminary review documentation). You can find more information and possible exemptions here. Applying for the preliminary review documentation at uni-assist alone does not count as an application to the University of Bayreuth.

When can I apply for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? I cannot select the correct semester at uni-assist.
The selection of the semester at uni-assist is not relevant for the University of Bayreuth. Please always select the current semester so that you can apply for a VPD. The VPD will be valid for one year after being issued for the application for all degree programmes at the University of Bayreuth.

When on uni-assists’ page: If you cannot find any programmes for the University of Bayreuth, please try entering “Universität Bayreuth” - the German name (or just Bayreuth).

I have received my preliminary review documentation from uni-assist. What do I have to do now?
Once you have received your preliminary review documentation from uni-assist, the next step is to submit an application for your desired field of study at the University of Bayreuth. You will find the correct application platform on the respective page of the degree programme in the category "How do I apply?" when you click on "Application for non-EU citizens". Applications received outside the application period cannot be accepted. Therefore, please observe the application deadlines applicable to your desired degree programme.

I have a preliminary review documentation for another university. Can I apply with it?
No, unfortunately, this is not possible - you need a VPD issued to an application at the University of Bayreuth.

Procedure for the allocation of study places

What do I need to receive admission?
This depends on the admission type of your degree programme.

You can find this out on the respective programme page in the section "How do I apply?”. However, the basic prerequisite for acceptance is always an application submitted in due form and time.

With our bachelor’s programmes, there are free-admission programmes, DOSV programmes (programmes with a local selection procedure, NC) and programmes with an aptitude assessment procedure. In the case of open-admission study programmes, admission is granted to anyone who has applied correctly and within the application period as well as having proven the necessary language skills and the required
higher education entrance qualification (HZB).

For degree programmes with a local selection procedure (DOSV, NC), a certain minimum grade must also be achieved, which may vary each year depending on the respective cohort of applicants.

For degree programmes with an aptitude assessment procedure (EV, EFV), you have to prove your suitability for the degree programme in addition to having a HZB and the required language skills. Depending on the degree programme, this is done, for example, by means of a letter of motivation or an interview, to which you will be invited after the formal examination of your application documents.

For degree programmes with a study orientation procedure, you must participate in this procedure. Only applicants whose participation has been recorded by the department can be admitted. The respective department will send you the invitation to the study orientation procedure.

With our master's programmes, it must always be checked whether you have proven the required language skills and whether your Bachelor's degree is equivalent to the possible courses of study listed as admission requirements in the examination regulations of your desired degree programme.
First, a formal examination of your degree is carried out, i.e. whether it formally corresponds to a German Bachelor's degree. Then it is checked whether the degree is also equivalent to the required degree programme in terms of content/subject.
For some Master's degree programmes, there is also a minimum grade that your Bachelor's degree must have in order to be considered. Some Master's degree programmes also require successful completion of an aptitude assessment procedure. The aptitude assessment procedure can vary greatly depending on the degree programme. Detailed information on this can always be found in the respective study and examination regulations, which you can download from the relevant
programme page in the section "Important documents and downloads".

Questions about admission requirements

What requirements do I have to fulfil for my desired degree programme?
The admission requirements and application platform depend on the respective degree programme. You can find the complete range of degree programmes at the University of Bayreuth in our study programme finder. If you click on the degree programme you would like to study, you will find an overview of the admission requirements under "How do I get a place?”. Under "Important documents and downloads" on the programmes’ page, you will find a link to the respective study and examination regulations which show a detailed overview of all admission requirements in the section "Admission/Access to Studies".

What language requirements do I have to fulfil to be admitted to a programme of study at the University of Bayreuth?
The language requirements depend on the respective degree programme. You can find more detailed information on the language requirements of your degree programme in the admission requirements and in the respective examination regulations. An overview of the language certificates we accept for the different language levels can be found here.

Can you tell me in advance whether I meet the admission criteria for my desired degree programme?
Unfortunately, a preliminary examination is not possible. Please first apply to us in due form and time so that we can get a comprehensive picture of your qualifications.

I have not yet completed my Bachelor's degree. Can I still apply for a Master's programme?
This is possible for most Master's degree programmes. You can find out whether this also applies to the programme of your interest and which further framework conditions must be fulfilled in the admission requirements and in the study and examination regulations of the respective degree programme.

Questions about application documents

What documents do I need for the application?
Information on the application documents required in each case can be found on the application process page for your degree programme that applies to you. A detailed description of how to get to the application process page and what you should note can be found here. Please also take into account the country information for your home country.

In what form do the documents have to be submitted? Is an online application sufficient or do I have to send documents by post?
If the application process takes place via CAMPUSonline, an upload is sufficient. Hard copies are not required in that case. If the application process for your degree programme is handled by the chair, please check the relevant requirements on the chair's page.

Do I have to submit a certified translation in German or English? If so, in what form?

Are your certificates (also) officially issued in German or English in your home country? In that case, a translation is not necessary.

We accept the translation of certificates issued by entities or institutions that are authorized to issue a sworn or a court approved translation or are authorized departments in the issuing school or university. We can not accept translations from simple translation agencies without an oath.

What exactly has to be uploaded for a certain document in CAMPUSonline?
Please note that there are mandatory documents and those that can be submitted voluntarily or only need to be submitted if they fit your situation. Since CAMPUSonline does not know in advance which documents fit your individual situation, more documents are usually requested than necessary – but sometimes also fewer.

Secondary school leaving certificate with overview of subjects and grades:

Here, please upload the last school leaving certificate you obtained in your home country and with which you obtained the higher education entrance qualification (e.g. to a university) there. Please always upload the certificate and the corresponding overview of grades. Please also take note of our country information and the country information from uni-assist. If your home country does not issue a transcript of grades for your secondary school leaving certificate because the final examinations are held via a separate university entrance examination (e.g. in Spain), please also submit the results of your university entrance examination. If space is limited, you can use the slot "Proof of higher education entrance examination" for this purpose.

Tabular CV:

You are welcome to design the CV yourself. We require a current, tabular CV with your complete educational background up to the time of your current application to the University of Bayreuth. It must contain comprehensive information on your educational background (schools, dates of (final) examinations, etc.) in the format “mm/yyyy to mm/yyyy” etc. Please provide details of every period up to the month of your application to University of Bayreuth and do not leave any gaps - even if you have not attended school or university or worked (e.g. longer periods of holiday and time off). This is the only way we can gain an overview of your educational path. You are also welcome to use our template if necessary.

Transcript of Records BACHELOR (or equivalent):
The Transcript of Records must contain all passed modules of a degree programme, including the credits awarded for them and examination grades from all semesters. It is not sufficient to submit only the courses and grades of the final semester. Please upload front and back copies.

If you have not studied yet, you can skip this document.

Grading Scale BACHELOR (with maximum grade and lowest passing grade of the degree - not of the individual courses):

Please upload information on the grading scale of your university. Often such a grading scale can be found at the end of your transcript or on the back. It is important to include information on the required minimum overall grade that must be achieved to successfully complete the degree programme. Sometimes this information is available in the study regulations or an ordinance. A link to the information on the official university website is also sufficient.

Preliminary review documentation uni-assist for University of Bayreuth:

If this document is required, it means that a Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD) must be obtained from uni-assist in advance for the application for this degree programme. Please note that we can only consider applications for which the VPD has been submitted by the application deadline. Please note that the VPD must be issued for the application at the University of Bayreuth. Test reports or preliminary review documentation from uni-assist issued for other universities will not be accepted. In which cases no VPD has to be submitted as well as further information can be found on this page.

Written presentation of course-specific competences:

Please upload a letter of motivation explaining which competences make you suitable for this degree programme. If the department has specific requirements (e.g. max. 2 pages A4), this information is to be found in the document information in CAMPUSonline.

Studienkolleg certificate:

This document only needs to be uploaded if you have passed the so-called "Feststellungsprüfung" at a German Studienkolleg.

Proof of higher education entrance examination:

This document only needs to be uploaded if it is a compulsory requirement for university admission in your country of origin. You can find out whether this applies to you in our country information.

Admission from the University of Bayreuth for this course of study from a previous semester (and possibly a letter of requirements):

If you were admitted to the same degree programme at the University of Bayreuth in a previous semester, please upload your old letter of admission here.

General questions

What is the current status of my application?

If you have applied via CAMPUSonline, you can check the status of your application yourself at any time. You can find detailed information on this in our application guide (p. 13 ff.). Please refrain from asking about the status of your application, as this leads to a longer processing time for applications due to the additional processing effort of such requests. You will find more details in the section “Status of my application” of these FAQ.

I have now submitted my application electronically via CAMPUSonline. Do I also have to send the documents by post?
No, this is not required. Uploading your documents digitally is sufficient for the application.

Can I upload or change documents in CAMPUSonline after I have submitted my application?
Yes, as long as the application deadline has not yet passed or there is a deadline for subsequent submission of documents for your degree programme (you can check this in the respective examination regulations), you can still upload or change documents afterwards. You can find out how to subsequently submit documents in our application guide (p. 14). If documents have already been checked by the University of Bayreuth and have been set to the status "Ok", it is no longer possible to make changes.

I have received my preliminary review documentation from uni-assist. What do I have to do now?

If you have received your preliminary review documentation from uni-assist and have already applied to the University of Bayreuth in the CAMPUSonline portal, you must upload it there. You can read how to submit documents later in our application guide (p. 14).

If you have not yet submitted an application for your desired field of study at the University of Bayreuth, you will find the correct application platform on the respective page of the degree programme in the category "How do I apply?" when you click on "Application with non-EU nationality". After you have created an account in CAMPUSonline, you have to upload the VPD together with all other documents.

I made a mistake, what should I do?

You or we can correct most errors. You do not need to delete your application or your applicant account. Please also do not try to open a new account. You can find information on how to edit your application in our application guide. If there are errors in fields that you can no longer edit, please contact us giving you application number (see contact form below). We will then make the appropriate corrections.

When will my application be reviewed?

I have just submitted my application. How long does it take for it to be reviewed?
Unfortunately, this cannot be generally answered. Depending on when you apply and how many others submit their application in the same period, it can take from a few hours to several weeks until your application can be proofed for the first time. If you have applied via CAMPUSonline, the status of your application documents will change as soon as the first proof has taken place. You will be notified of the status change by e-mail. Please also check your applicants account for changes as sometimes the e-mails end up in the spam folder.

I have submitted missing documents or corrected them. The status has not changed since then. When will my application be reviewed again?
Until a new check has taken place, the status remains unchanged, as the status is changed manually by a member of staff when the application is rechecked. We will review your corrected application again as soon as possible. However, the recheck may take a little longer than the initial review, as applications that have not yet been reviewed in full are given priority in order to give all applicants the opportunity to submit missing documents in good time.

The status of my BACHELOR application has had the status "formal admission requirements met" for some time now. When will the review process continue?
If you have applied for an admission-free Bachelor's degree programme, admission is usually generated within a few days. In the case of restricted-admission degree programmes, fulfilled formal admission requirements do not yet guarantee admission, but this initially means that you are one round further. In the next step, places are awarded to those who, in addition to fulfilling the general requirements, also meet the additional admission requirements specific to the degree programme. This means that for degree programmes with restricted admissions, admission can only be granted once you have successfully completed the respective procedure (study orientation procedure, local selection procedure or aptitude assessment procedure). For degree programmes with a study orientation procedure and an aptitude test with interview, you will receive an invitation from the chair. In the case of the other selection procedures, a decision on the allocation of study places will be made after all applications were received, so after the application deadline.

The status of my MASTER application has had the status "formal admission requirements met" for some time now. When will the review process continue?
The next step is the examination of the admission criteria by the responsible examination board of the programme. Unfortunately, we have no influence on when this will be completed, but it is also in the interest of the University of Bayreuth to issue the admission or rejection notices as soon as possible. If there is an aptitude test for your degree programme, the subject-specific admission requirements are, in most cases, evaluated after the application deadline, as the aptitude tests are often carried out only once all the applications were received.

Documents are displayed as being "not ok".

I have received an e-mail that my documents are not ok. What do I have to do?
Please log in to your CAMPUSonline account. For the application marked with a red cross
, please click on the magnifying glass icon .

If you click on the document(s) marked with an exclamation mark under "Application submission", you will find the option to submit missing documents, download templates if necessary within the application period.

Please note the explanatory text under “Status” for more details!

If the document is required for enrolment, you do not need to correct it in CAMPUSonline, but must submit the missing document together with your other documents for enrolment (e.g. language certificate, degree certificate). Other documents may be submitted within the first year of study.

I have corrected documents, but the document status still shows that my application documents are incomplete, why?
The status of the application documents will not change until your application has been rechecked and is complete. Please check independently whether documents have been marked with an exclamation mark. Due to the high number of applicants, we cannot immediately recheck your application, so we ask for a little patience.

My German certificate is "not ok" but I do not have any other yet. What can I do?
Document German A1: You can initially enrol without this proof and complete a language course until the end of the second semester at the Language Centre of the University of Bayreuth.

Document German B2 or higher: In CAMPUSonline, when you click on the document, please note the information text under "Status". There are two possibilities here: Either you will receive a conditional admission or the submitted proof is not yet sufficient for admission. In this case, if you do not submit sufficient proof of your German language skills by the application deadline, you will receive an exclusion notice.

Documents that are often "not ok":

Secondary school leaving certificate with overview of subjects and grades:
Here, please upload the last school leaving certificate you obtained in your home country and with which you obtained the higher education entrance qualification (e.g. to a university) there. Please always upload the certificate and the corresponding overview of grades. Please also take note of our
country information and the country information from uni-assist.

Curriculum vitae in tabular form:

You are welcome to design the CV yourself. We require a current, tabular CV with your complete educational background up to the time of your current application to the University of Bayreuth. It must contain information on your educational background (schools, dates of (final) examinations, etc.) in the format “mm/yyyy - mm/yyyy” etc. Please do not leave any gaps - even if you have not attended school or university or worked (e.g. longer periods of holiday and time off). This is the only way we can gain an overview of your educational path. You are also welcome to use our template.

Admission from the University of Bayreuth for this course of study from a previous semester (and possibly a letter of requirements):

If you were admitted to the same degree programme at the University of Bayreuth in a previous semester, please upload your last letter of admission here. Should you have uploaded here other document, this will be marked as “not ok”.

What does the status of my application in CAMPUSonline in the section "Admission" mean?
As long as you see the question mark symbol
and the text "Admission not yet carried out", no final decision was made on your application yet.

For Master's degree programmes, the examination always consists of two partial examinations of the admission requirements: the formal and the subject-specific examination of the admission requirements. For Bachelor's degree programmes, depending on the type of admission, although there is only a status for the formal admission requirements, there may also be an aptitude assessment evaluation afterwards if these are fulfilled.

As soon as the formal or subject-related admission requirements have been marked with a red x , this means that your application has unfortunately been rejected.

You will find more information on the reason for refusal in your letter of exclusion or refusal. You can download it by clicking on "Download decision".
As soon as the symbol with the green checkmark
appears next to "Admission", this means that you have been accepted and your admission letter is ready for download.
If you would like to start your studies with us, you can accept your place at the university in the next step (open the section "Study place offer").

I have received a rejection for formal reasons, why?

If you are informed in your decision that your application had to be excluded from the selection procedure, then the rejection was for "formal" reasons.

You can also recognise a formal rejection by the fact that it says the following in the "Admission" section of your application in CAMPUSonline:

"Status: formal admission requirements: not fulfilled".

This means that your application did not fail because other applications had priority (were "better"), but that so-called formal reasons of your application were not fulfilled so the application could thus not be considered in the further selection process.

This may, for example, have the following reasons:

  • Required documents were not submitted or not submitted within the specified deadline
  • Required documents were submitted, but they were not complete
  • Required documents have been submitted, but the basic admission requirements were not met (e.g. proof of language skills are not sufficient, minimum grade is not achieved, school or Bachelor's degree is not sufficient for university or Master's access in Germany).

If you are not sure what the reason for the rejection is, check the following things:

  • Did you submit your application by the application deadline?
(You can find the deadline that applies to you on the page of your desired degree programme under "How do I apply?").
  • Have you selected the right degree programme and the right starting semester in CAMPUSonline?
  • Do you meet the requirements of your desired degree programme in terms of required language certificates, minimum grade, etc.?
(You can find the requirements applicable to the re
spective degree programme on the page of your desired degree programme under "How do I apply?").
  • Are documents in CAMPUSonline not ok, i.e. marked with an orange exclamation mark?
(See section 'Documents have been classified as "not ok"', page 14)
  • Are your educational qualifications sufficient for studying in Germany?
Application for Bachelor: Do you have a higher education entrance qualification for Germany? Application for Master: In anabin - Is your higher education institution recognised (status H+ under "Institutions") and does your degree correspond to at least a German three-year Bachelor (section "Higher Education Qualifications" - Corresponds to a 3-year bachelor; Exception: Computational Mathematics: 4-year bachelor's required).
I have received a letter of denial, why? (Only for Master's applications)

You can also recognise a subject-related rejection by the fact that it is written in CAMPUSonline in the "Admission" section of your application:

"Status: academic entry requirements: not fulfilled".

This means that the respective examination board of the degree programme has determined that your academic qualification is not sufficient for the respective degree programme.

This may have occurred for the following reasons, for example:

  • The course contents of your Bachelor's degree are not similar enough to those required in the admission requirements.
  • Further admission requirements specified in the study and examination regulations have not been met (e.g. at least 16 credits in numerics).
  • Subject-related documents (e.g. letter of motivation) were missing or did not meet the requirements.
  • For English-taught degree programmes: Your English certificate does not meet the requirements
  • For degree programmes with an aptitude test: The result of the aptitude test was not good enough or you missed a set deadline.

If you are not sure what the reason for the rejection is, please read the reasons in the rejection letter. You can download this in CAMPUSonline in the "Admission" section of your application via "Download decision". If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the respective programme moderator. You can find the contact on the programme page under "Contact".

I have received an assignment to the Studienkolleg, what happens next? (Only for Bachelor applications)

What does the assignment mean for me?
If you have already received an assignment to the Studienkolleg München from us, it means that we will register you for the entrance examination at the Studienkolleg München. The examination takes place in presence in Munich in the rooms of the Studienkolleg. There is no re-examination.

If you have passed the entrance examination, you will attend a preparatory course for the Feststellungsprüfung for two semesters. Passing the Feststellungsprüfung in one of the four subject areas is a prerequisite for starting your studies in Germany.

Where can I find more information about the entrance examination?
You can find more information on the entrance examination on the website of the Studienkolleg München. You can also find dates and answers to frequently asked questions here.

I cannot take part in the entrance examination, what do I have to do?
If you are unable to attend the examination, you can deregister with us by the application deadline (by 15 January/ 15 July at the latest). Simply reply to the e-mail with the letter of assignment. After the application deadline, please deregister from the Studienkolleg München. This is important as it may count as one failed attempt if you miss the exam.

How can I get reassigned to the Studienkolleg?

If you need a new assignment because, for example, you were unable to arrive on time, you can simply request a new assignment.

If your application was only one or two semesters ago, it is usually sufficient if you contact us by e-mail as soon as possible (by 15 January/ 15 July at the latest) and inform us that you need a new letter of assignment.

If, on the other hand, your application was submitted a long time ago, then please apply regularly for the Bachelor's degree programme that you intend to pursue with us after the Studienkolleg. The new application is necessary to ensure that the information and documents we have from you are up to date.

I don't know exactly

To check the status of your application in CAMPUSonline, please log in to your applicant account. Then go to "Application & Enrolment" and click on the pencil icon for the application you would like to check.

You will then find information in the "Admission" section as to whether your application was rejected for formal or academic reasons.

You will find more information on the reason for rejection in your letter of exclusion or rejection. You can download it in the section "Admission"/"Result of the admission procedure" by clicking on "Download decision".

I would like to enrol

I have received a letter of admission, what happens next?

If you need a visa to enter the country, you can now apply for the visa with your letter of admission at the relevant visa authority in your country. Since this process can take a long time, you should do this as soon as possible. The University of Bayreuth has no influence on the visa process and cannot speed it up.

Further steps:

  • Accept your study place in CAMPUSonline. (Please note the information under "What do I have to consider when accepting a study place?")
  • Transfer the semester fee. (Please note the information under "What do I have to pay attention to when transferring the semester fee?").
  • Complete the application for enrolment online via CAMPUSonline.
  • Print out and sign the application for enrolment.
  • Send the enrolment application together with the required documents (see last page of the enrolment application) by post to the address printed on the application form by the end of the enrolment period at the latest. Please make sure to submit all required documents completely! You will find the individual enrolment deadline in your letter of admission.

Provided that all documents and the semester fee have been received in full and on time, enrolment at the University of Bayreuth will take place if there are no obstacles for enrolment. In the case of incomplete or incorrect documents, we will make a note of this in CAMPUSonline ("Enrolment" section) or notify you by e-mail. Therefore, please check there regularly.

What documents do I have to submit for enrolment?

The documents for enrolment cannot be uploaded in CAMPUSonline. You will only find a list of required documents there and a note if something is not in order or missing. Please send them by post to the address specified in the enrolment application.

Documents that must always be submitted:

  • Signed application for enrolment
  • Proof of transfer of the semester fee
  • University entrance qualification (secondary school leaving certificate + university entrance examination, if applicable, and further certificates or proof of periods of study).
  • Certificate of health insurance or exemption from it

Documents to be submitted in most cases (for international applicants):

  • Visa (If you need a visa for entry, this must be submitted for enrolment. If you do not receive it in time, enrolment is unfortunately not possible).
  • Language certificate
  • For Master's applications: Bachelor's degree certificate + Transcript of Records (or equivalent degree, e.g. Licence, Idjaza) in original language and translation, if applicable (not required if your certificates were (also) issued in German or English in your home country).

You can find further details to the documents following this link.

What happens after enrolment?

If a green checkmark  appears next to "Enrolment" in CAMPUSonline, you have been successfully enrolled. After successful enrolment, you will receive an e-mail with the necessary data for your student account (user ID and PIN code). After logging in to CAMPUSonline for the first time, the password must be changed so that you can use all online platforms. The registration must be completed within one week (days).

The University of Bayreuth Campus Card will be sent to you by post. Please make sure that your postal address is up to date and that your name is on the letterbox.

I have received a conditional letter of admission

If you have been granted conditional admission, you will find this information in your letter of admission.

What does a conditional admission mean in my admission letter?

A conditional admission means that you do not actually fulfil the admission or enrolment requirements. However, you will still be admitted or enrolled under the condition that you submit the missing document within a specified period of time. If the document is not submitted, you will either not be allowed to enrol in the degree programme or continue studying it.

If you are admitted to a master's programme, you will find information regarding the conditional admission in your letter of admission.

If you are admitted to an undergraduate degree programme, you will receive information regarding your conditional admission either separately by e-mail or via CAMPUSonline.

You will find this information in CAMPUSonline in the “Application submission” section, if you have received a letter of admission, but the status shows "Application documents temporarily not complete". For further information, please click on the document marked as "not ok", the one with an orange exclamation mark.

What types of conditional admissions are there?

There are different types of conditional admissions:

  • Regarding special requirements: The special requirements must be fulfilled in order for you to enrol. You must submit the relevant evidence (e.g. degree certificate, German certificate DSH-1 or DSH-2) together with your enrolment documents, otherwise you will not be able to begin your studies.
  • Regarding document requirements: You must submit certain documents or certificates within the first or the second semester (e.g. proof of internship, German A1; degree certificate). Please submit missing internship certificates to the relevant internship office, missing graduation certificates or language certificates to the Student Administration Office.
  • Regarding module requirements (only for Master's applications): Your Bachelor's degree programme differs to a certain extent from the prerequisite degree programme at the University of Bayreuth. You must therefore make up for some lectures from the Bachelor's programme. You must do this within the first two semesters, otherwise you will not be allowed to continue your studies for the time being. If you have received module requirements, we strongly recommend you to make a plan in an appointment with the study counselling service as to when it is best to take which requirement subjects.

Questions about a conditional admission regarding special requirements:

I have received a special requirement for the German exam, what happens next?

If you have received the special request to submit a DSH certificate or an equivalent certificate for enrolment, you will receive a separate e-mail from us with the most important information. In this e-mail you will find a list of certificates accepted for enrolment as well as information (date, costs) about the DSH examination at the University of Bayreuth and the registration form, should you wish to take the exam.

I have a special requirement for the language certificate German A1, what do I have to do?

You must submit proof of German language proficiency at level A1 to the Registrar's Office by the end of the second semester at the latest. There is the option of taking the German course either after enrolment at the Language Centre at the University of Bayreuth or at another institution.

I would like to postpone my admission to a later semester

Is my admission automatically valid for other semesters?

Your admission is only valid for the semester for which it was issued. For legal and technical reasons, we cannot transfer it for you either. You can find out what you need to do to obtain a new admission below.

What do I have to do to get a new letter of admission?

When applying via CAMPUSonline: If you have received a letter of admission but are unable to take up your place, you have the opportunity to apply again for the next semester. For the new application, however, you only need to upload your last admission under:

"Admission from the University of Bayreuth for this degree programme from a previous semester (and separate notification of requirements, if applicable)".

You can simply skip all other documents required in CAMPUSonline if nothing has changed here.

This way you will receive your new admission letter as soon as possible. If you have received missing documents in the meantime (e.g. language certificate, final certificate) you can also upload them.

Please note, however, that this only applies if there are no relevant changes to the conditions of admission. Should there be changes in the conditions of admission, a renewed admission might not be possible or only possible under changed conditions.

If your programme did not require the application via CAMPUSonline: Please consult the office that sent you your old letter of admission.

Please be aware that not all degree programmes can be started in the Summer Semester.

I am already enrolled and would like to change my field of study

You can find the overview page of the Student Administration Office with all details and the necessary forms under this link.

What do I have to consider?

The completed and signed "Application for Change of Subject" (see point 4 of link above) must be submitted to the Student Administration Office (by post, posting or e-mail).

Additional documents may need to be submitted with the application (see below).

A change of subject is only possible in the time from the beginning of the re-registration period until the end of the enrolment period.

You must meet the admission requirements of the new degree programme.

This means that for all Master's degree programmes and for Bachelor's degree programmes with admission restrictions (DOSV, NC) or aptitude (determination) procedures (EFV) you must submit a regular application by the specified deadline.

Please refer to the page of the respective degree programme for information on application or enrolment deadlines and the respective admission requirements.

If you are not a citizen of the EU, the EEA or Switzerland, please click on the link "Application/enrolment with EU citizenship" anyway.

For all other degree programmes, an application is not required, but can be submitted in CAMPUSonline on a voluntary basis.

What do international students need to be aware of?

A change of subject can lead to the loss of the residence title if it has not been reported to the competent Foreigners' Registration Office!

Therefore, please have the change of subject approved by the Foreigners' Registration Office if your residence title depends on the subject of study. You will find the necessary form at the bottom of the page of the Student Administration Office.

If you do not have a letter of admission from CAMPUSonline, you will need the signature of the Incoming Degree department on the "Application for Approval of Change of Subject" beforehand. You can either send it by e-mail to incoming-degree@uni-bayreuth.de or hand it in at the office 1.82 in the Central University Administration (ZUV).

If you have the approval from the Foreigners' Registration Office, please hand it in to the Student Administration Office together with the application for a change of subject.

Which documents are necessary?

You can find a detailed list on the Student Administration Office page.

The "Application for Change of Subject" (see point 4, link above) is always necessary.

Almost always necessary: Letter of admission (for transfer to Master's degree programmes and Bachelor's degree programmes with admission restrictions)

Please also note:

If you change your field of study, your language education status will not be adjusted automatically. Please contact campusonline@helpdesk.sz.uni-bayreuth.de by e-mail to inform us of the changed subject combination.
